The National Oceanic (News - Alert) and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reportedly implemented the MaaS360 from Fiberlink for gaining visibility and control over government-owned mobile devices.

NOAA is a scientific agency within the Department of Commerce and is in charge of studying and predicting weather, climate, oceans and coasts. With MaaS360, it intends to expand mobility initiatives across operational units within the Department of Commerce, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the United States Census Bureau.

Joe Klimavicz, CIO at NOAA, said in a statement, “MaaS360 provides NOAA with a scalable, enterprise class MDM solution that gives us mobile flexibility in a secure environment. The solution easily integrates into our current architecture and provides a robust set of tools to manage our existing, as well as future, mobile device requirements.”

Jeff Ward, vice president of federal sales at Fiberlink, added, “Cloud computing initiatives have taken center stage, and that includes almost all areas of government that have also seen their employees mix professional with the personal on mobile devices. MaaS360 is the best choice for agencies looking to strike the right balance between mobile security policies and government employee productivity.”

Fiberlink explained MaaS360 lets users provision, secure and manage their mobile devices and apps all from a single portal while at the same time minimizing risk to their organizations.

Some of the notable features and benefits of MaaS360 include reduction in cost of supporting mobile workers while maintaining control over all mobile devices, simplification of IT management with a single portal and the ability to control entire mobile operation, policy implementation for balancing employee productivity with business security, extended advantages from service level guarantees, including uptime, backup and disaster recovery for business continuity without redundant installations, cloud-based MDM enhances the functioning of on-premises tools without high licensing and deployment and maintenance costs.

MaaS360 for the public sector gives government agencies integrated mobility management capabilities across devices, apps and documents, delivering a more efficient and secure infrastructure operations model.
